In the UK going to work is a very serious and costly\nexercise.  First, one has to select a suitable\nwear for a particular day, second the same must be appropriate for the working environment\nand; third it must be pleasing to the employer. \nIn this sequence, employees religiously listen to the English weather\nforecast which influences the choice of wear for the day and the rest as a\nmatter of course.  However at the back of\neach employees\u2019 mind is the saying \u2018you\ncannot trust the English weather\u2019, <\/em>which they take in their stride if the\nweather changes from the forecast.  In\nshort UK employees never lose hope intrusting the weather forecast.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lets remember 1987 when a Mr Michael Fish\u2019s a professional weather forecaster dismissed a caller to the weather studio that \u2018do not to worry about impending storm\u2019<\/em> which eventually swept the island with untold and costly consequences\u2019.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lets remember 2012 when Prince Charles made a pitch as a weather forecaster.\u00a0 No one called the studio to suggest that they did not believe Prince Charles and the weather turned out as he forecast.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now lets look inside the employers shelter, by\nsubstituting the word \u2018weather\u2019 for \u2018racism\u2019 what comes in mind is the need for\n\u2018racism forecasts\u2019 so that employees are given all the opportunities to prepare\nsuitably to braze the daily challenges of racism<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employees do engage each other without being\nconscious of prevalence of racism in their working environment.  For example, they encounter a loosely\noft-used but pointed statements such as \u2018do\nnot go there\u2019<\/em>; \u2018don\u2019t even go there\u2019<\/em>\netc., etc.  This is a soft end of racism\nas the one cautioning, has some insight on \u2018racism\u2019 and therefore defends it\nfrom examined, while the cautioned braze through it unknowingly.  ESRL suggests that such \u2018remarks\u2019 <\/em>go under cover of soft racism because of no loss of life\nor loss of livehood is experienced; and so brushed off as \u2018hurt\u2019;<\/em> dismissed as \u2018get a\nlife\u2019<\/em>; shrugged-off as \u2018we can live\nwith it\u2019<\/em>;  \u2018has a chip on his\/her shoulder\u2019<\/em>; etc. etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the weather, racism can change in intensity by\ngoing beyond \u2018hurt\u2019 i.e. lead to strife, loss of livelihood or loss of life\u2019.  In this context employers are demanded to be\nresponsible and confront racism.  ESRL\nsuggest this may be one of the reasons the UK government enacted the Equalities\nAct 2010 to encourage employers to be sensitive to protected characteristics\nbefore it gets out of control.  No doubt\nits costly to deal with loss of life or loss of livelihood hence race\nsensitivity is at the fore of the Act. \nEqualities Act 2010 is a \u2018race\nweather warning\u2019<\/em> and employers need to organise the working envorment\nsensitive to race issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the protection of the UK Equalities Act 2010,\nESRL argues that employers should build a \u2018racism forecasts\u2019 tool to shield\nemployees from racism.  This in turn with\nmake employers more race sensitive.  Its\ncheaper to deal racism at a soft level before it changes in intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A \u2018Mr Fisher\u2019<\/em>\nor a \u2018Prince Charles\u2019<\/em> \u2018racism\nforecast\u2019 may not be trusted but employers are obliged to pay attention to\n\u2018racism forecast\u2019 because of its employees, who will trust it, at least.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Unfortunately, emotional damage can be inflicted\nwhile being protective.  This is because\nthe unsaid, the unmentioned, the uncompleted, the unattended to, etc., etc.,\nleaves the protected wondering why they are being protected.  Transparency about racism in a working\nenvironment best prepare one for the challenges dealing with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
